First Impressions of Coonridge

Coonridge Organic Goat Cheese Dairy is a little farmstead cheese making operation deep in the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico. I’m spending the fall here working and learning about goats, cheese, farming, and living off-grid. I’ve been here for two days, and it’s been wonderful. More words later, but for now, here are some pictures!

We milk 58 does.

Two of their four guardian dogs, relaxing after a hard day’s work.

Rooster.

My cozy new home.

  1. Oh wow, I thought you weren’t leaving until later! I’m so glad you’re taking pictures, it’s fun to see what your new life looks like. I milked goats for the first time today! I was terrible at it, and it was much more difficult than I expected…anyway, hope your first days are going well!

Yes, it’s been awesome. We mostly use milking machines, so you’re probably going to get better at it than I am. I’m going to learn hand milking too though. Are you posting updates anywhere?

    • Ah yes, with 58 I suppose milking machines are essential. We only have 10 that we milk. I’ve now milked for the third time; it’s getting much easier. I’m also keeping a blog: grownintexas.wordpress.com
